Refuse collection services restored in Manenberg

The City of Cape Town is relieved that refuse collection services in Manenberg were restored on Monday, 3 March 2025, after a temporary suspension last week. Any backlog that may have occurred has since been cleared.

Services were suspended due to high levels of shooting in the area, with staff still attempting to do their work despite the crossfire. Going forward, daily safety assessments will be done in Manenberg before collections staff enter the area.

We thank those in the community who made the effort to contain waste on their property until services were restored.

The City’s cleansing services will be in the area this week clearing any dumping that has occurred during the service disruption.

We urge the community to work with us to ensure a healthy environment. Shootings may cause delays in refuse collection, but the City will return as soon as it is safe to do so and clear any backlog. Please keep your bins out for collection. If the bin is stolen, this can be easily replaced at no cost to the receiving household.
